Rwanda discovers 5400 victims of the 1994 genocide. The executive secretary of Genocide Survivors Organization Ibuka, Naphtal Ahishakiye, said that the bodies were exhumed from 26 mass graves in Masaka and Kicukiro districts near the capital, Kigali.

The executive secretary added that a local resident who had lived through the tragic events of 1994 when more than 800 000 Tutsis were killed in only 100 days pointed towards the unknown mass graves.

“The search for more graves in the same district is ongoing,’’ Ahishakiye said. About 18 000 bodies have been discovered in Rwanda since April.
